Let there be light. . . .
We recently purchased a lake house!!! It has been a life-long dream and I just cannot wait to make it my own and share decorating ideas with you.
Today I’m sharing how adding a little light made a dramatic change. I really could not believe the difference!
The dining room is a small room, just lightly larger than a 10 x 10 room. The Mr. is pretty claustrophobic so I knew for him to enjoy family meals in this room we would need a slight change.
On the other side of the blue wall (above) is the eat-in kitchen area. The former owner, who I greatly admire, used this area to homeschool her children, hence the white board.
Family is pretty important to us! So being able to have meals together was a top priority, even in a small space.
I also have a round table that I wanted to use in this room (one of my favorite thrift store redo’s – coming soon). It will seat eight very comfortably, but with minimal light I knew it would feel tight in the space.
We also decided, due to lots of other things going on, to only make two changes before we moved some furniture in our new home – 1) put a hole in this wall and 2) paint. Two small things that made a huge impact!
Away with the white board and here we go. . . .
Making sure the size was correct was key – before doing too much damage to the wall. I wanted lots of light!
Also, always remember before doing any construction project to use a professional. They will check on really important things like – is this a load bearing wall? or is the power turned off? You really need to know these and some other very critical things before putting a big hole in your wall. They also know how to utilize equipment safely and with all appropriate safety gear! Never cut corners on safety!
Trimming out the window came next. All of this was done prior to the painters arriving. The Mr. and I have done some of our own painting in the past. But. . . . there are a lot of bookcases, molding, kitchen cabinets, so we opted for hiring the professionals. They could also get this done a lot faster than we could.
It was definitely worth using the experts for the hole in the wall and the painting!
Look how this opens up the space!!
You can see into the eat-in kitchen and the sunroom! And there’s lots of additional space for everyone to be able to dine and talk, even from room to room!
My table fits great! The Mr. doesn’t feel claustrophobic! And I just love the change.
Take another look. . . from this. . .
